Luna HSM v7.9.1 Software, Firmware v7.9.2, and UC v10.9.2 Now Available

Thales announces the availability of the latest Luna HSM updates, delivering advancements in post-quantum cryptography, automation, performance, and compliance.

What’s Included in this Release?  

  • Software v7.9.1: compatible with Luna Network and PCIe HSMs
  • Firmware v7.9.2: compatible with Network, PCIe, and Luna USB HSMs
  • Universal Client (UC) v10.9.2: compatible with Firmware v7.9.2 across all Luna HSM form factors
  • Exciting updates for Luna USB HSMs with firmware v7.9.2, including:
    • PKI with NIST-standardized PQC algorithms
    • New support for digital asset use cases (for example: cold wallets)

PQC Enhancements

  • Software v7.9.1 introduces support for hybrid KEM (ML-KEM), enabling post-quantum key exchange for NTLS, SSH, and REST APIs
  • REST API enhancements enable the collection of cryptographic key metadata and the creation of a Cryptographic Bill of Materials (CBOM)
  • Extend ML-KEM and ML-DSA support to USB HSM

Automation and Operations

  • HSM policy template management via REST API to automate and standardize HSM configurations, supporting consistent compliance at scale
  • SMK rotation via REST API, enabling key rotation automation
  • Enhanced certificate management REST APIs to optimize your Certificate Life Cycle Management

Performance and Compliance

  • Increased PED timeout, supporting large PED quorums with up to 16 PED keys
  • Firmware v7.9.2 includes FIPS 140-3 Level 3 compliance updates and is the next FIPS candidate with PQC
  • 5G Milenage performance optimizations
