New DPoD Data Center Open in Amsterdam, Upholding EU Sovereignty for Data Security

The newest Data Protection on Demand (DPoD) data center is open in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This new facility joins Thales’ existing network of trusted data centers strategically located across Europe and North America, ensuring customer data remains geographically close.

Why EU Sovereignty Matters

Thales recognizes the importance of data sovereignty, providing customers with the tools and expertise to secure their data and protect encryption keys. This empowers organizations to comply with relevant regulations and undergo secure digital transformation while maintaining complete control over their data within the EU.

Technical Details of the Amsterdam Data Center

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for Simplified Management: The Amsterdam data center leverages IaC for a streamlined and efficient architecture. This allows for automated network and cluster configurations, aligned with GitOps principles, for maximum control and compliance.

Highest Security and Privacy Standards: As with all DPoD data centers, the Amsterdam facility is designed to meet the industry’s highest security and privacy standards for which Thales is renowned. This includes certifications like SOC 2 and ISO 27001, ensuring data security, operational reliability, and privacy controls.  Certifications such as ISO 27001 and SOC2 are awarded retrospectively based on the successful assessment of the operation of a service over the preceding 12 months. As a result, the Amsterdam data center will receive these certifications in the next audit cycle.

With Luna HSM in the cloud on DPoD (also available on-premises or as a hybrid solution), we anchor DPoD services with our own FIPS-certified root of trust.

Unwavering Physical Security: Thales prioritizes physical security for all its data centers. The Amsterdam facility features 24/7 manned security with constant patrols, perimeter inspections, and industry-standard access controls. Multi-factor authentication ensures only authorized personnel can enter the data center.

Addressing Growing Demand and Future Plans

Thales acknowledges the rising demand for data sovereignty. With plans to launch additional data centers in the future, Thales aims to cater to a broader customer base and offer ever-expanding solutions across its Data Security portfolio, particularly SaaS offerings, on the DPoD marketplace.

Commitment to Sustainability

The Thales Data Protection on Demand (DPoD) cloud marketplace is dedicated to demonstrating a measurable and significant decrease in our carbon footprint, reducing power consumption and operating cost through eco-design, in alignment with Thales’ ESG (environmental, social, and governance) commitment to a greener, safer world.

This new data center highlights the significance of upholding EU data sovereignty as we continue to onboard more and more customers that require additional resources and the tools to scale them with ease, secure in the knowledge that they are in accordance with regional requirements.
