Thales Luna HSM Receives NATO Secret Classification

We are pleased to announce that Thales Luna Network HSM 7 has been formally listed in the NATO Information Assurance Product Catalogue (NIAPC) as approved for NATO Secret

This approval enables customers operating in defense, government, and other high-security environments to deploy Luna HSMs to strengthen cryptographic operations, secure the full crypto key lifecycle, and serve as a hardware root of trust for critical infrastructure.

NATO defines four information-security levels: COSMIC Top Secret, NATO Secret, NATO Confidential, and NATO Restricted. NATO Secret is the second-highest classification and applies to information whose unauthorized disclosure could cause serious damage to NATO operations.

For cryptographic devices, a NATO Secret classification means the hardware has undergone rigorous evaluation confirming it can protect classified information, secure key material, and meet strict tamper-resistance and supply-chain integrity requirements. Only devices that meet these standards can be deployed to safeguard Secret-level information across allied networks.

This latest certification reinforces that our Luna HSMs are engineered to meet the most stringent global security standards, including FIPS 140-3 Level 3 and Common Criteria EAL4+. For our customers, this means they can rely on hardware that has been independently validated to protect critical keys, simplify compliance, and support strong security across a range of regulatory environments.

This milestone also aligns with our ongoing investment in post-quantum cryptography (PQC) readiness, enabling customers to meet current NATO requirements and prepare for future threats with crypto-agile Luna HSMs.
